Megan and Henock Melaku exchanged vows and shared the first day of the rest of their lives together at The Prado in picturesque Balboa Park. Megan and her bridal party were up bright and early getting ready for this milestone occasion at Salon Naturale in La Jolla, CA.
The ceremony took place at the Casa Del Rey Moro Gardens inside of a peaceful isolated garden featuring a fountain. As Megan walked down the aisle to greet her soon-to-be husband, she was surrounded by white rose petals, which added a gorgeous touch to their intimate ceremony attended by their families and closest friends. The ceremony included the lighting of a unity candle by members from both the groom and bride’s families, signifying the two becoming one.
After the ceremony guests were escorted upstairs to the terrace of the Alhambra Room overlooking the ceremony site as well as the vistas of Balboa Park. They enjoyed cocktail hour while the couple had some post ceremony alone time. The reception was soft and intimate consisting of different shades of rose and lavender all around the venue as well as tea light candles to add romantic lighting. Fresh florals were designed by Maggie of Rosas De Jardin. Lavender and white roses were placed together in grey vintage vases with other shades of purple florals and greenery for an elegant centerpiece. Fresh roses were also placed on a simple and classic all white wedding cake by Flour Power.
The Melaku’s wedding was as cheerful and fun as their personalities, filled with cute, handcrafted items made by the bride herself to celebrate the union of not only the two of them, but their two cultures coming together as well. You could feel the love that the bride put into the signage she made for the guest book tables and the hanging sign reading “Just Married” that draped their sweetheart table. The bride also handcrafted the props for the polaroid photo booth. Guests put their photos into the guestbook along with well wishes to the new couple. As a gift of thanks, the guests were given almonds as favors with a personalized message from the couple. This fun wedding even included some traditional Ethiopian dances! At the end of the festivities, the couple had a “grand exit” were the guests celebrated by showering them with fluff balls and confetti. The party didn’t stop there either, the couple and the entire bridal party went to La Jolla to take gorgeous beach photos together prior to their after party. We want to wish the very best to the Melakus!
