Bridesmaid Dress Trends For 2017 & 2018

Up until fall, we were seeing a lot of the traditional bridesmaid dresses. But recently we have seen the trend beginning to curve. There are two distinct trends happening from now through the spring of 2018.

The first trend is the casual bridesmaid dress. Bridesmaids gowns are short or tea-length with an A-Line cut and either cap sleeves or ¾ sleeves. They are in solid colors in mainly deep hues of gray, purple, rose, or blue.

A different angle on the same dress is going with navy or black and adding a light colored sweater or wedding jacket with lace and embroidery. These trends are wildly popular because the bridesmaids will be able to dress the dresses up or dress them down, and will be able to wear them for events after the wedding.

What is the bride wearing with this trend?

The bride is wearing an A-line gown with round or V-neck and cap sleeves or wide straps.  Her skirt is made of tulle and her gown is a soft white or ivory. She is wearing a wedding cape of tulle to match the skirt and trim of fur or layers of lace that create a hood.

Her bridal cape or shawl may be white, or she may wear black or navy over their white gown for pictures.  This trend is often chosen for outdoor weddings, vineyard weddings, and barn weddings.

The Elegant Trend

As mentioned, there is a second trend for the bridesmaids of 2017 & 2018. This trend is all about embroidery. Gowns are fitted and lace embroidery allows for mock necklines. The illusion of coverage allows for a deeper scoop neckline.

Other alternatives are lace covered gowns with sweetheart necklines and long or ¾ sleeves. The colors are a bit lighter to show off the details of the dress. You will see more blush pink, lavender or royal purple. These gowns may have a plunging back and on rare occasions will have a wispy lace shawl.

What’s The Bride Wearing?

This bride is wearing elegant chiffon gown with elaborate applique work. The gowns are champagne or ivory. If the bride goes with white, she goes with the diamond white for maximum effect. Her train is attached below the waist and her hair is adorned with flowers.

The bride and bridesmaids are wearing flower halos that are very colorful. Their bouquets are oversized, fully bloomed arrangements. The bouquets are so large that they are used as centerpieces at the reception dinner.

This trend is often chosen for church or venue weddings in wedding chapels.

No matter which trend the bride chooses, or if she goes with something that is completely opposite of current trends, the experts in the bridal industry will have options to satisfy her.

As with any trend, it can change quickly. It only takes a few brides with the vision and courage to push the limits of fashion to begin a popular look that takes the industry by storm. The fashion curves we have seen thus far makes is anxious to see what new looks the bridesmaids will wear by the end of 2018. We will be watching and will let you know what changes are coming.
