Steampunk Photoshoot

Steampunk – noun: a genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advanced technology.

San Diego Style Weddings Magazine has featured our most recent photo shoot! This Steampunk themed shoot showcases an edgy and topical style that many modern brides are keen on. We spent time with Shadowcatcher Imagery scouting out the ideal location and eye-catching props in order to create a picture perfect shoot. Los Willows in Fallbrook, California is a grand venue that complimented our styled shoot and themed decor wonderfully. Continue reading

Creating your own Photobooth!

Photo stations have become part of the wedding reception culture. Without a doubt when you attend a wedding these days, there will be a photo booth or photo station! They are interactive, fun and a great way for guests to meet one another.

If a professional photo booth is not in your budget, don’t worry! There are many cost effective ways to create your own photo station without breaking the bank. The first step is to scope out your venue and decide on the best location. The ideal spot is somewhere with a solid wall or a place to hang a backdrop. If you choose to use a backdrop you can purchase a solid or designed sheet, curtain or tapestry. You can even make your own by ripping different solid colored sheets into strips and hanging them. Use a bamboo curtain for a tropical themed wedding or make a sparkly curtain with little round mirrors glued to string. Not too crafty? Choose a shower curtain with a map on it and have guests color in where they’re from with markers!

What many brides forget!

Guest count? Check. Music? Check. Dress? Check. Accessories? Oops…

The bride, who will have everyone’s attention, has forgotten her accessories for the most important day of her life. About 90% of brides walk out with no accessories for two main reasons. The first is that the bridal store did not have a large selections and the second is that many bridal stores carry accessories that are too expensive. At Your Side Planning recently connected with Sandra Nicole Designs to get you the scoop on the best way to solve this bridal predicament. Sandra Nicole is a boutique which specializes in styling a bride on her wedding day. As more brides are coming to realize the importance of accessories Sandra Nicole’s company has been expanding.

Sweet Italian Love At The Gorgeous El Cortez

It was such a pleasure meeting sweet Italian couple Athena and Frankie 6 months prior to their San Diego wedding. This fun-loving couple are so cute together, and I was so excited they chose At Your Side Planning to coordinate their beautiful wedding at the exquisite Don Room at the El Cortez. In the architecture business, Athena had a natural vision for chic design with clean lines that added an original twist to the already gorgeous Don Room.

Their wedding had a modern, fun, and artistic styling. Our creative bride crafted her own arch out of flowers made from coffee filters. It looked amazing as the couple said their heartfelt vows under Athena’s handmade creation. Adding another personal touch, the Officiant was a close friend of the family.

The artsy, square cake was designed by Fab Cakes in Mission Hills and it lived up to its name, looking fabulous on the gorgeous cake stand by Enticing Tables! The ivory, yellow and blue floral centerpieces by Whimsey Florist were stunning, perfectly incorporating both fun and chic elements of design.

For their guest book Athena and Frank provided pieces of different colored fabric for their loved ones to sign. The couple will turn this into a keepsake quilt! To add to the romantic lighting in the ballroom the bride wrapped candles in velum and incorporated them into the table numbers and decor. The food, catered by Culinary Concepts, was also delicious and beautifully styled. Best Beverage provided fun, refreshing drinks throughout the night including custom Bride and Groom’s cocktails.

Dennis from B’Entertrained was not only a terrific DJ, but was also the guitarist for the ceremony. The bridal party simply floated down the aisle to Dennis’ guitar strings. John B Productions and Ken Ellefsen Photography captured every moment of the day and were both a treat to work with.

The couple greeted every guest with a gift of almonds (also known culturally as “confetti”) which is a very important Italian wedding tradition. The boxes of almonds were each wrapped in handmade fabric doilies knitted with care by a close family member. Athena and Frankie were surrounded by so many friends and family that adored them, this wedding was a true love-fest!

The couple’s grand exit concluded with being driven away by the best limo driver around, Darren of Elite Image Limousine!

Island Romance in San Diego!

Mad libs, fingerprint stamps, and the coolest photo booth! Yes, all these things were a part of Vanessa and Matt’s amazingly fun and lovely wedding at the Bali Hai in San Diego. We met with Vanessa last summer and immediately connected. Her cool style, fun color palette, and inner beauty were all reasons we knew we were a match for this very organized bride!

Vanessa and Matt had an emotional and private “first look” moment captured perfectly on film by Joseph Guidi at Humphreys. This beautiful couple then exchanged vows under a delicately covered bamboo chuppah on the lawn overlooking the famous San Diego Bay. Many gorgeous elements were created by the bride herself like the “here comes the bride” ribbon. Her nephews played as she walked down the aisle. Pastor Ricky of the Rock church had everyone laughing during the ceremony as he shared more insight about the fun-loving couple.

The cocktail hour included a “sign in” station which was a fingerprint stamped page of fish and wishes. Guests left their mark along with messages on the adorable fish board.  The bright color palette of fuchsia and yellow lit up this fun venue magnificently. Hawaiian elements were infused into the style of the already awesome Pacific Island decorated venue including the chuppah, floral arrangements, ring bearer pillow, cuisine, and island styled signature drink!

Inside the reception room, guests had a blast filling out the wedding mad libs for Vanessa and Matt. On a more serious note, guests filled out cards with advice for the couple to ponder later. The beautiful floral by Flora Glamour was creative and the twine bringing two centerpieces together was impressive!

Joseph Guidi also had a great photo booth set out for the guests to enjoy all night! Music by DJ Randy of R3 Entertainment had the guests rockin’ the house until the very end of the reception. We loved coordinating Vanessa and Matt’s wedding day and wish them all the best in their future together!

A Lovely Birthday Celebration!

Catherine’s birthday celebration was so many things: fun, impressive, and most importantly, enjoyable for the birthday girl herself. Catherine is a former event planner so we knew that in order for her to relax, she would need to see that At Your Side Planning had everything covered. We assisted Catherine in planning her perfect celebration; an environment of excitement and entertainment. The theme of the night was family, friends and wine. Catherine’s guests entered into a home lit with radiant ambient lighting and electrifying music provided by Steve from Unique Mobile Sounds. Steve played a wonderful mix and had the adults and children grooving all evening.

We also loved seeing the children dance wearing props provided by Lovely Photobooth.

The bar was stocked with many selections from Wilson Creek Winery.  We brought on Royalty Staffing to handle the bar for the night, who we adore working with. We placed the cutest signage throughout the home which had fun quotes such as, “Life is too short to drink bad wine.” The highlights of the evening included three casino tables from Casino To You where the guests were able to enjoy blackjack and roulette!

The games were so popular and at the end of the night, any guests who had “money” remaining were able to purchase raffle tickets and win fabulous prizes such as dinner to Mortons in downtown San Diego!

Another popular highlight was the delicious dessert buffet created by Deborah of Your Mind’s Eye. This station included so many tasty treats like cookies, mini cupcakes, candy, and more!

Catherine had a slideshow created by Bob Hoffman Photo and Video of her life up until now which played on the big screen during the party. This let her guests learn fun facts about Catherine, like she was actually a Polynesian dancer as a youth! The food was prepared and served by San Diego Catering and the backyard looked terrific with rentals from Raphaels, including the space heaters that kept the guests warm. The entire night was captured by Autumn Bradshaw Photography who were a joy to work alongside with. We loved seeing Catherine and her husband enjoy themselves throughout the event.

It was truly a pleasure planning and coordinating this birthday celebration! Thank  you Catherine for allowing At Your Side Planning to make your birthday amazing!

Urban Wedding Shoot at Fluxx San Diego

At Your Side Planning recently styled a photo shoot with some very talented vendors at the hottest club in San Diego, Fluxx! The styling was inspired as an Urban Wedding in the city incorporating bold metallics with a complementary color palette of the super hot-right-now neon pinks and lime greens. Emily and Yvette from FLUXX were simply wonderful to work with on this shoot. Glamourous models showed off tuxes from A Gentleman’s Tux and chic dresses from Mia Bella Couture and were beautified by Schlomit and Kevin of Shampoo Too and Marcus of Beauty Karma Love. These ladies and gents looked spectacular!

Every piece of the shoot design had been thought out down to the finest details. The posh bouquets brimming with bling and sensational decor were designed by Tam and Ofe of Isari Floral Studio.

The club was decked out with the newest line of lounge furniture from AFR Rentals and gorgeous linens and rentals from Raphaels.

We worked with Casa De Perrin in dressing the table with exclusive one-of-a-kind settings.

Bamboo Star Studios showed off their talent in tailoring the menus and place cards with pizzazz! We entwined the urban theme into the menu of savory sliders and portobello burgers…yum!

The ceremony site held lounge benches that faced the officiant, who commanded the wedding from the DJ Booth! The reception table was in the middle of the club, lit with extraordinary lighting, as the extra large lounge chairs naturally stole the show.

The dessert station was an “after party treats” spot with mini cupcakes created by Sweet Thoughts, candy and smoothies. This station was inspired by fun late night runs after a night out on the town.

There to capture all the excitement and chic decor was the wonderfully talented Flavio of LEAF Photography. We had an incredible time planning this shoot with the brilliant vendors and the amazing expert models. If you’re looking for a venue for your next event we highly recommend Fluxx, and keep it in mind for a unique wedding spot too!
