Romantic Picnic for Two ~ L’Auberge, Dom Perignon and Surprises!

Meliza, a former bride and present friend, contacted me to create a romantic picnic for her friends, Erica and Dustin.  Erica and Dustin were married at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego this past summer and did not have a honeymoon.  Thus, being an ever thoughtful friend, lovely Meliza wanted to give them a surprise mini honeymoon in the area. She arranged for Erica and Dustin to stay the weekend at the stunning L’Auberge Resort in Del Mar, CA.

Everything about this romantic weekend was a surprise for the couple. Erica and Dustin received a sweet note in the mail with the address of L’Auberge and a time to check in. When the couple arrived, they received welcome ‘his and hers’ cocktails.  After their cocktails, the couple were treated at the spa for hours of serious unwinding! After becoming completely relaxed, they entered their room to find a fold down of white rose petals spread out in the letters E + D along with another darling letter directing them to the concierge at 5:30.

My assistant and I had a gorgeous picnic set up with Dom Perignon champagne and delicious food from L’Auberge which included flatbread, french fries and a fruit platter placed in a cute wicker picnic basket. The lawn was adorned with candlelight and rose petals to add to the beauty of the couples’ sunset view. Soft blankets were laid out along with a delicate floral arrangement which resembled the bride’s wedding bouquet.

At the concierge, the couple were instructed to follow a path of ivory rose petals along the sidewalk which transitioned into blush petals and finally dark pink petals. This beautiful path led them to their secluded picnic on the lawn which overlooked the spectacular Pacific Ocean.  The couple couldn’t stop smiling when they discovered their destination. We, of course, discreetly looked on at a table away from them but could see their joy. We absolutely loved creating this special day and night for them! They enjoyed their mini honeymoon and were amazed by the details and thought that went into the picnic and stay at L’Auberge. Thank you Meliza for allowing us to help gift this couple with such an unique and astounding event!

Solana Beach LOVE

The wedding celebration of Lori and Dave was breathtaking and was held at their residence in Solana Beach. We met Lori in February and were thrilled to create and design such a special day for such an amazing woman!  We were referred to Lori by the wonderful husband and wife team, Ellie and Mike of 1 Look Back Photography. We created a color palette of her favorite colors, blue and orange and creatively incorporated much of her and Dave’s personalities in the day. From the moment the guests arrived, they were greeted by the Valet staff of First Class Valet and a glass of Prosecco.  The “Valet” signage was actually a chalkboard bought at a antique sale by the groom for Lori. The signage was beautifully designed by Bamboo Stars which guided the guests throughout the wedding and was a fun way to inform all of the little details. The beautiful lounge and rentals from Concepts Party Rentals added to the already gorgeous home. An adorable moment within the ceremony included seeing Bella, the doggie ring bearer enter and run to the groom!  So much thought was put into the details including signature drinks named after the couple called the “Sassy Lori” and “Dave’s Delight“! The grooms family flew across the country to celebrate with this lovely couple and even the bride’s best friend traveled from afar.  The color palette was aqua and orange with elements of pink, blue and lavender. The floral by Whimsey Floral was colorful with a tiny hint of feathers and bling.  The lighting by Unique Mobile Sounds completed the look to the backyard which also was the dancing area!   Mike and Ellie of 1 Look Back Photography were there the entire day capturing every fabulous moment. Ellie and Mike are spectacular photographers who made Lori feel relaxed with their calm demeanor and fun, creative ideas! We loved the details and beauty of this wedding celebration. Thank you Lori and Dave for the great times and we wish you the absolute best in your new life together!

The History of the White Wedding Dress!

Have you ever wondered why wedding dresses are traditionally white? It has not always been this way! In 1840, Queen Victoria wore what people describe as a “flamboyant white gown”.  In those days, wearing white clothing signified that you were wealthy and could afford to purchase a dress that you may never wear again.  Wedding dresses were all different colors, shapes, and styles.  Most women wore dresses that they could slightly alter and wear again.  Another famous white wedding dress that presented itself after Queen Victoria was a knee-length white wedding dress designed by the infamous Coco Chanel.  Even so, women still just wore what they would afford, and still only those that came from wealth had the means to wear an elaborate gown on their wedding day.  The white wedding dress tradition is still very, relatively new.  Queen Victoria may have been the first in 1840 but the tradition didn’t really set in and take off until about 1950.  Now most people can’t dream of a wearing a wedding dress that is any other color than white.
However, there are always those that want to start their own traditions and such, so if you’re thinking about wedding in a gown other than white, here’s an old folklore that may help you decide whether to go with tradition…or not!  We enjoy seeing all styles of wedding dresses.  We have even had a bride who had an all white wedding and she herself wore slate.  It was so much fun!  We wish you the best in your wedding gown shopping!

Chucks at Weddings!

Many are unaware of the latest trend in weddings, but Chuck Taylors are becoming a new fashion statement in the industry. Today, more and more future brides and grooms are leaning towards the direction of nontraditional weddings, and instead adding their own style and flare to the celebration. To others, Chuck Taylors are merely associated with athletics, however these “never out of style” All Star sneakers are easily customizable with their bright and flashy colors and various patterns.

Nobody wants a grumpy bridal party, that’s why the new trend for wearing formal shoes is all about feeling comfortable, and the new trend for wearing casual shoes is about having style–all of which is offered for every look if you decide to wear Chucks regardless of the attire. Chuck are cute, unique, and a fun way to add a pop of color and a twist of personality to weddings. More and more weddings are featuring Chucks, and because they’re not only comfortable and trendy, they’re also stylish and practically impossible to pass up!
